After a leisurely morning at the Valley of the Rogue State Park, we left for our destination of Coos Bay, Oregon. Some of you may remember a song in the '80's by Ray Stevens called 'The Haircut Song', which mentioned Coos Bay. If you are so inclined, click here to hear a portion and read the lyrics. It's very funny. We checked in to the Mill Casino Campground and found it to be very nice with full hookups and cable for only $18. We are finding that casinos are a very nice place to stay, even free with no hookups. A few more pics of the Oregon Coast. Coos Bay is a logging town and we were impressed with this pile of logs at the docks. As we left Coos Bay and headed north, we were traveling along the huge sand dunes that had built up along here. This is a popular place for ATV's. They are available for rent all along here. Two more new friends for Mary Lou. After driving by so many beaches, we finally stopped and had occasion to actually walk on a beach. It must have been low tide as the beach must have been 200 yards or so, wide. (It was a long way to the water). And it was cold and very windy. Sand was blowing alone the beach This lighthouse was built around 1883. Two years later this lighthouse was built a few miles away because ships coming from the north couldn't see the other one!! Go figure! We were heading to McMinnville for the night, but we were tired and it was getting late, so we opted to stop in Lincoln. We happened on the Chinook Winds Casino and we joined the 13 other RV's in their parking lot. We parked next to a mini-forest of trees, and overlooked the vast Pacific. A really nice spot. Tomorrow we'll press on to McMinnville. Why? What's in McMinnville? Stay tuned.
